SELECTED PROJECT
RECIFE, A CITY BUILT THROUGH READING (RECIFE UM CANTEIRO DE LEITURA), Recife, Brazil
The City of Recife has programs and initiatives that promote reading, and they invited us to design a street furniture to be installed along the Boa Viagem beachfront. A Little Free Library is a small public book-sharing box where people can borrow and return books, and it was placed along the Boa Viagem beach in Recife. These structures operate on a “take a book, leave a book” honor system. The structure was made of steel, with the upper portion featuring built-in lighting and designed to display advertisements and branding from companies that could sponsor the project. It is supported by a concrete base and topped with a red-and-white canopy. The colors reflect the city government's palette.
