Postcards | From 3D to 2D
In this project, students explore hierarchy, composition, and style through the design of a 4x6 postcard. The concept for the postcard should be developed by closely analyzing the work of a selected artist, architect, or designer—this reference will serve as both inspiration and point of departure.
Using images from their INDE 101 project—such as plans, sections, facades, details, perspectives, sketches, or renderings—students will reinterpret their own work to create a postcard that reflects the influence of their chosen reference. The final design may be a full or partial image and should clearly demonstrate how the selected artist's visual language informed the result.
This exercise emphasizes alternative graphic representation as a means of showcasing design ideas and communicating architectural concepts in a creative, concise format. Students learn to use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop while exploring the elements and principles of design.
EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION: CONCEPTUAL ARCHITECTURAL DIAGRAMS
The objective of this project is to conduct a series of experiments or investigations which relate to your thesis project. We will refer to a chapter from Speculative Everything: Design, fiction and social dreaming by Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby in our efforts to uncover underlying methodologies through experimentation. You will choose ONE stream of inquiry and one topic: 1. Conceptual or theoretical investigation, 2. Construction Details or Connections , 3. Material Investigation.
